You might be wondering...Who's that girl? This is Maria! She is a makeup artist and you can find her blog here: http://www.agapelovedesigns.com/
We met quite a few years ago...(I actually can't remember exactly how I found her...) but I followed her on Instagram and I was inspired by her; when you are not well, you struggle to complete the simplest tasks, anything extra, well you just don't have the energy or the will to do them, especially when dealing with prolonged illness.
Maria's posts inspired my to get out of the "rut" of plain brown eye shadow...I always used to do fun eye makeup, but getting ready to go work at the salon when you have had vertigo non-stop 24/7 for a year, or constant anxiety and panic that doesn't subside the next year, or are going through the longest and worst Ulcerative Colitis flare of your life the year after...let's just say that I was proud to just get my makeup on (plain brown eye shadow in "the year of vertigo" I call it), hair done and be professionally put together the best I could during those times.
Don't get me wrong; there is nothing wrong with plain brown eye shadow, I like it from time to time, but on a regular basis...that's just not me...
Her talent and artistry inspired me to start using fun colors again, I LOVE color, and you know, seeing that fun color on my eyes as I was talking with clients and doing their hair made me smile inside, for a brief moment I would forget how ill and awful I felt, how much weight I had gained from medication and how much pain I was in, it might seem silly to you but such a small thing, a little ray of positivity can make all the difference...so I continued to follow her and continued to be inspired by all of the beautiful colors she used to create her looks (some have even inspired jewelry pieces on the site now)
I loved getting to know her, have collaborated with her on her blog, we have become friends and now she models my pieces for me!
Which is a bit complicated....you see Maria lives in California, and I am in Springfield, Missouri....so I mail off packages loaded with jewelry pieces for her to style and photograph for me!
Jewelry is beautiful...but there is something about seeing it modeled on a person that makes all the difference in the world...
Now this does leave me in a bit of a predicament... I do have many one of a kind pieces that just can't be photographed by a model...because then I wouldn't have it to offer to you, my customers! But I am hoping to change that slightly as time goes on...perhaps having a photo of a piece that is the same style shown in the listing to give you a better idea of how it looks on a real person...
I stopped using bust forms for photos since they rarely captured how a necklace falls on a real person and long necklaces were bloody impossible to photograph! I think most designers are moving away from bust form photos for that reason, I do see them when other designers post photos of live shows they are selling at with their tables all set up and a few of them do still use the forms...but mostly they are draped nicely on a tray or hanging from a display with multiple necklaces lined up together.
Anyways, back to Maria...at the moment I only have her modeling pieces that I offer to my wholesale partners, many of which I offer retail as well (direct to you!) the main reason is you wouldn't believe the amount of work she puts into each shoot for me: not only does she get ready (picks out a set to be photographed, selects an outfit and does her hair and gorgeous makeup to compliment the set she is shooting that day) but she does these photos by herself! Yes you heard me! By herself; posing, camera on delay, shot taken, runs back to check the photo (she's a perfectionist like me...) resets the camera, runs back to do a different pose, and repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat.....then editing and selecting the best ones she likes to send to me so that I have beautiful photos to share on my websites and social media!
She has been such a blessing in my life and without her generosity I wouldn't have these stunning photos that you see sprinkled around everywhere I can share them!
My plan is, because I am constantly dreaming and planning...I am hoping to soon have a photographer that is local to her taking photos of her in my pieces, possibly outdoors because I absolutely LOVE how the Bohemian styled wedding photos turned out, and I would love to have more photos like those!
As I have said before: I don't picture my "dream client" as one specific type of woman--I picture her as many different types of women; we are all unique and beautiful in our own way, and we all enjoy expressing ourselves differently; I know that not everyone who wears my jewelry wears extravagant makeup, some might not even wear makeup at all, but I feel Maria is a stunning model for my pieces; perhaps one of her beautiful photos might inspire you in some way (as she inspired me) and bring a smile to you as you express yourself with LITVA'S.
I hope you have an amazing day!
